One Word: Strands

She looked at him as if she saw a monster. His face morphed into something ghastly with tendrils of mucus flying off of his sharp teeth and black haunting eyes threatening to suck out her soul through her irises. Her body failed any method of protective precautions and completely shut down instead of fleeing like her brain shouted to do. A growl emitted from the back of his throat, sending a wave of nausea from the pit of her stomach up her esophagus. She was backed into a corner, the moist stone wall pressed right up against her back. She willed her body to melt into the stone, pushing herself so close to it the sharp ridges broke the thin skin of her shoulders. He forced his body almost against hers, threatening to engulf her, eliminating any sight lines around his burly frame. Where was there to go? A frenzied smile played with the edge of his mouth, a laugh so baritone pulsed through her rib cage, shaking each strand of veins attached to her heart.

“Don’t fuss, my sweet.” He hissed, mucus flying out and sticking to her cheeks. “I’d say it won’t hurt, but I like it when they scream.”

A dread unknown washed over her body. Her knees buckled and the cartilage strained to keep her from collapsing at his feet. His face moved closer and she could smell a putrid rotting coming off his breath. It was the smell of death and fear emanating off his taste buds. He was going to kill her. His dirty fingers found the nape of her neck and pulled the black tufts of hair from their roots. His smile widened as he raised the treasure to his hungry nostrils.

“Mmm, you smell lovely.” He released the clump from his grasp. She watched through bleary eyes as her hair drifted to the ground.

She wished she could scream for help, but her voice fell short behind her tongue. He was going to kill her, and she would go soundlessly without putting up a fight.

“Come now, darling. Let’s get started.” He snatched the crown of her head this time and yanked it sideways, revealing the tender skin of her neck. Yellow teeth ate up half of his faced as he hovered for a simple moment, before plunging them into her jugular vein. Right then her voice broke free from her tongue and her piercing scream bounced off the stone walls before she went silent as he feasted on her whole.
